Acquired during work

Due to the participation in developing the DTAP procedure at ChipSoft. Due to the complexitity of and challenges presentated by the DTAP procedure knowledge of SQL is needed. Investigating problems at database level is often required and therefore knowledge about SQL is also required. Due to the development and innovating of the several EPR's questions arose about how the data could be extracted and how the data could be presented uniformly. The first is accomplished by using XML and the second by using XAML. In other to be able to develop features it is required to familiarise myself with XML and XAML. I am very familiar with the common used syntaxes of all three.

Acquired during personal projects

In my leisure time I have developed many web related skills. For a friend of mine, I have developed (and still maintain) a online billing system. This required skills in AJAX, CSS, CSS3, HTML4, HTML5, Javascript, MySQL, PHP7 and XHTML. During the development of this online billing system MySQL statements in PHP became depricated, therefore I had to master skills in MySQLi. Every two years I host an online pooling system for the FIFA World Cup or the UEFA European Championship. For developing and maintaining this website I use my skills in CCS3, HTML5, PHP7 and MySQLi.

Acquired during study

In my study Medical Health Informatics I had to complete tasks regarding to programming in Java and developing websites. One of the exercises was to create, maintain and update an online portfolio. The goal of the online portfolio was to reflect on study results and assignments. Secondary goals were to develop skills in CSS, HTML4, Javascript, SQL and XHTML. For two assignments it was required to create an extraction protocol for PubMed to extract MeSH terms. For these exercises skills in XSL_FO and XSLT were required.

Acquired during work

As a software consultant I do projects for clients situated all over the Netherlands. Although ChipSoft has a best-practice EPR for almost every specialism, there are still differences in work processes and politics. Every project has its own scope and agreements, you will have to be adaptable. Because of these different work processes I have to analyse them thoroughly and find solutions in the best-practice or develop new features. Implementing an EPR is a sub-project you will have to operate independently so that end users can use the product in their daily practice. Choices made in our best-practice EPR have to be explained to the end users so they can familiarise themselves with the best-practice. In these projects decisions have to be made and in a short time frame everything has to be completed; both are no problem for me, I dare to make decisions and I am hardworking. In the DTAP setting I learned quickly the most common commands in SQL and problems were solved quickly after installing a content-update. I am always looking for a short-term solution or work-around and a long-term solution.

Acquired during personal projects

I like to improve my skills by doing projects for friends or myself. In order to improve myself I created an online billing system for a friend of mine. I analysed what the requirements were and discussed possible solutions for the requirements. I work individually on these projects and when I do not understand a specific problem, I will search the net for similar problems in order to find solutions to my problem. When I am looking for solutions, I try to understand why the solution works and try to reverse engineer so that I can understand it even better. By doing so, I can use my newly acquired knowledge for other projects and in my daily work.

Acquired during study

During my study several assignments had to be made. Those assignments were in general group assignments. I enjoy to work in a group and I like to lead the group to success. Learning new things was challenging, but by reading books, searching the internet and consulting other students, it is doable. Presentations were given to summarise the assignments for the other students and I like to present outcomes of a particular assignment. For my final thesis I chose to do my research on a relatively new subject: drive time of pregnant women to hospitals with respect to perinatal mortality rates. Due to the relatively new subject, no predefined scientific research was available. By consulting my tutor, mentor and many other professionals in the field, a decent scientific research was executed on this topic.
